Job Title: Workforce Skills Advisor

Position Overview:

The Townsville Chamber of Commerce is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Workforce Skills Advisor to lead our New Horizons program. This new initiative empowers, elevates and connects skilled women who are unemployed, underemployed, or seeking to transition their careers. The program provides essential training and support to position participants for success in the region’s emerging opportunities and industries.

This is a full-time/part-time, fixed-term 12-month position, with continuation subject to program funding.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Coordination:

  • Oversee the New Horizons program, ensuring its smooth delivery and relevance to participants’ employability goals.
  • Collaborate with businesses and industry stakeholders to identify skills gaps and create employment pathways.

2. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with job networks, recruiters, and employment agencies to connect participants with opportunities.
  • Actively represent the program at community events, workforce development forums, and Chamber-led initiatives.

3. Participant Support:

  • Conduct individual assessments to identify participants' transferable skills and development needs.
  • Create tailored learning plans, focusing on skills enhancement aligned with regional industry demands.

4. Training Delivery:

  • Facilitate workshops on resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Deliver training on skills mapping and micro-credentials tailored to the job market.

5. Networking and Opportunity Matching:

  • Partner with recruiters, Chamber members, and job agencies to match participants with potential employers.
  • Organise networking events and employer engagement sessions to connect participants to opportunities.

6. Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track program outcomes and participant progress, providing regular updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Collect feedback from participants to continuously improve program relevance and impact.

Program Details:

  • Duration: Each program is 8 weeks (flexible scheduling to meet participant needs)
  • Target Audience: Skilled women re-entering the workforce or transitioning their skills to new positions and/ or industries

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience in workforce development, career coaching, or similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of labor market trends and practices, especially related to women's workforce participation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in digital platforms for training and program management.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with women in transition or disadvantaged communities.
  • Familiarity with programs such as Skilling Queenslanders for Work.
  • Knowledge of micro-credentialing, skills mapping, and other workforce development methodologies.
